English Heritage and the Historic Environment of Liverpool Project

English Heritage was formed by the Government in 1984 with the formal title of The Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission and is the Government's lead body for the historic environment. The national H.Q. is in London, and the North West Regional Office is in Manchester. To find out more about English Heritage visit

The Historic Environment of Liverpool Project was launched by English Heritage in March 2002 in response to Liverpool's outstanding historic environment. It seeks to gain a comprehensive understanding of that historic environment, to ensure that it plays a positive role in the city's regeneration and to ensure that any changes to it are managed responsibly.
